Ongoing Projects
EJA: Environmental Justice in Albania
“EJA: Environmental Justice in Albania” represents a broad framework of activities aimed at strengthening the capacities of justice and law enforcement bodies to combat environmental illegalities, as a prerequisite that guarantees access to environmental justice.
Connectivity through Pastures
“Connectivity through Pastures” aims to address the challenges faced by a highly neglected typology of natural ecosystems found in our country, pastures. In particular, the project follows the requirements for rehabilitation or halting the environmental degradation that pastures along the eastern edges of the Albanian Green Belt are facing.
Rapid Watershed Assessment for the Western Balkans
At the core of the initiative is the education of riverine communities in the Western Balkans to “diagnose” the condition of freshwater streams found near their settlements. In Albania, the project is focused on two areas rich in such streams, the Municipality of Kukës and that of Shkodër.
Solutions Connecting Farmers
The “Solutions Connecting Farmers” (SCF) project represents an innovation-driven initiative, through which we are assisting two farming communities in the Municipalities of Shkodër and Vorë in Albania, in response to their needs for adaptation to conditions dictated by climate change, as well as in improving their efficiency and business model.
KlimaSOT – Scientific information channel about the climate in Albania
The project aims to enhance media coverage and public understanding of climate change in Albania. It addresses gaps in scientific coverage and public perception through various activities, including engaging national scientists, reacting to climate-related events, as well as facilitating networking between journalists and researchers.
Triggering Emissions Reductions in Power- and Emissions-Intensive Sectors (TERPEIS)
TERPEIS is a regional initiative supported through the EUKI program of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action. The focus of this project is to pursue a bottom-up approach to assist in the implementation of the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans.
Monitoring Nesting Attempts of Loggerhead Turtles
The project “Monitoring Nesting Attempts of Loggerhead Turtles” aims to survey and preserve identified nesting sites of the species Caretta caretta on Albanian shores. It is supported by the UNDP’s Global Environment Facility’s (GEF) Small Grants Programme, and is being implemented by REC Albania.
Monitoring Coastal Eutrophication through Earth Observation for ESA
The aim of this project is to provide data for a satellite monitoring system of coastal eutrophication conditions in two countries, Albania and Tanzania. REC Albania acts as the official and exclusive partner of CGI Italia for our country, and generates data for this system.
