In cooperation with Europe House, the Information Centre of EU in Tirana, we celebrated World Oceans Day by reminding everyone of the major role the oceans have in everyday life. They are the lungs of our planet, providing most of the oxygen we breathe. In the end, it is a day to celebrate together the beauty, the wealth and the promise of the ocean. Pollution through plastic causes severe harm to the marine life. 80% of all pollution in the ocean comes from people on land. We must prevent plastic pollution and encourage solutions for a healthy ocean.

The activity was organized in two sessions. The screening of the Plastic Planet documentary and a session of discussion on plastic pollution to engage the youth present from some high schools of Tirana. Youth not only have the ability to understand plastic pollution, but they also have the power to lead the world towards solutions.

The talk with the youth from high schools of Tirana emphasized that it’s normal not to litter and that it is everyone’s responsibility to stop litter by reducing the use of single-use plastic. We talked about how many people are switching to durable, reusable solutions, for the health of both the ocean and their communities.

Plastic Planet film is a powerful, award-winning documentary about plastic and other forms of plastic pollution that inundate our waterways and our body. A Plastic Planet screening event inspires action and empowers individuals to be part of the solution!
