Project Background
In the context of the project titled “The Triad of Arbanon’s Heritage”, Ref. No. ALB/EC/22644/CFP 05-2024 funded by EU4Culture’s program titled “Recraft the Past, Build up the Future III”, and implemented by UNOPS’s Presence in Albania, REC Albania is seeking to recruit a qualified Cultural Experts to contribute to an innovative project documenting and promoting lesser-known cultural heritage sites in Albania. The project aims to create a comprehensive journey compendium highlighting the interconnection between cultural and natural heritage at three significant sites: Monastery Church in Rubik, Kurçaj Bridge in Krujë, and St. Anthony’s Church in Cape Rodon.
Position Overview
We are recruiting an experienced Cultural Expert to lead research, documentation, and interpretation of cultural and historical sites, contributing to a multidisciplinary approach to heritage preservation, entangled with values of natural conservation.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct in-depth historical and archaeological research;
- Develop detailed documentation for selected cultural sites;
- Contribute to the “Timeless Arbanon” Journey Compendium;
- Collaborate with natural heritage experts and educational institutions;
- Support multimedia content development and educational initiatives.
Required Qualifications
Essential Criteria
- Advanced degree in Archaeology, History, Cultural Studies, or related field;
- Knowledge of the history and sites falling under areas of the “Principality of Arbanon” and its Cultural Heritage Sites (especially the sites listed in the ToRs);
- Overall expertise in Albanian cultural heritage;
- Excellent analytical and writing skills;
- Fluency in English and Albanian.
Preferred Qualifications (Lack of such criteria does not constitute basis for disqualification)
- Previous experience in interdisciplinary heritage projects;
- Research experience in archaeological and historical documentation;
- Knowledge of sustainable tourism development;
- Experience in creating educational and promotional materials;
- Familiarity with GIS or digital documentation techniques.

- Financial offer (expressed in the form of a day-based fee in ALL) provided in a separate document titled “Financial Offer”;
- Portfolio of work or writing samples demonstrating cultural research expertise (preferred, but not obligatory).
Project Details
- Duration: 11 months.
- Start Date: Immediately upon signature of the Contract.
- Remuneration: Expertise day-based fee for a total of 22 working days scattered throughout the duration of the project.
- Location: Albania (with field research at specified sites).
- Collaborative, interdisciplinary work environment.
