As part of our commitment to environmental stewardship, on September 23-24, REC Albania organized two impactful events in Kukës to celebrate European Green Belt Days. The European Green Belt Days is an annual celebration of the European Green Belt, a transboundary ecological network connecting various countries. REC Albania’s events in Kukës were part of this larger celebration, highlighting the region’s unique biodiversity and its crucial role in the Green Belt.
REC Albania is thrilled with the success of its European Green Belt Days events in Kukës. Our aim was to raise awareness about the importance of the European Green Belt and empower individuals to become active stewards of their natural heritage. We believe these events have brought them one step closer to achieving that goal.
On September 23, a stakeholder meeting was held at the “Hasan Prishtina” Cultural Palace. Local officials, NGO representatives, and community leaders gathered to discuss the importance of the European Green Belt in this region. Experts from REC Albania and environmental specialists shared information about the area’s biodiversity, Kukës’ role, and the significance of the “Korab-Koritnik” National Park as part of the Green Belt.
The second activity took place on September 24, where students from “Havzi Nela” High School participated in a nature expedition near Fierza Lake. During this day, participants learned more about the concept of the European Green Belt, ongoing projects in the area, and its ecological importance. The group conducted simple experiments to assess the lake’s water quality, demonstrating the importance of environmental monitoring. The day concluded with a short hike, giving participants the opportunity to observe local biodiversity up close.
With 34 participants, the event successfully promoted the European Green Belt’s importance locally and within the broader European conservation effort. REC Albania’s commitment to environmental stewardship was evident through the event’s success, contributing to a legacy of environmental awareness and conservation in the Kukës region.
