Climate change is already affecting the world, including Albania. “24 Hours of Reality” is an activity focused on climate change which seeks to inform everyone on this planet about the challenges they face or will have to face as a result of climate change. A global activity that for the 8th consecutive year in an interesting way intertwines technology, social media and people to bring the planet together with a common purpose: for the benefit of Planet Earth. A very large team of people, scientists, climate experts, businessmen, economists, engineers, students and children bring their real stories about climate impacts and the challenges they face, through documentaries, songs, scientific facts and data. All this for 24 hours in a live broadcast across the globe to share those success stories and find viable solutions to improving the planet’s environmental condition.
The Resource Environmental Center (REC) Albania, welcomed this event in Tirana, becoming part of an international event to discuss the impact of climate change in our small but very sensitive country.
Al Gore’s “24 Hours of Reality” this year had its focus on the impacts of climate change on human health. Healthy people need a healthy planet. That is why we should gather in this activity and show that we are determined to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This could be the biggest public health risk in the world. The health of our families and communities is under threat. Today we are all aware that climate change is changing the appearance of our planet, so we must act to protect our life and the planet. Extreme weathers are getting worse. Infectious diseases are on the rise. Our food and drinking water are at risk. Despite this, very few people are talking about this issue. It’s time to break the silence and push our leaders and people everywhere to talk about this problem. This is exactly what we did on December 3-4, for 24 hours in a row.
